Hello and welcome to Happily Sew! I am just starting my second year as a Costume Construction and Design student at South Essex College. Our HE Degree Course is in collaboration with the Royal Opera House and I love it!
From a small child making dolls clothes, to a young woman making some of my own clothes, I always enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, etc. However, for years with a full-time job and with our world of cheaper fashion it didn’t make sense to spend time and money making my own clothes any more.
The opportunity over the last few years to help out the drama departments in my sons schools re-ignited my passion for creating and, when I needed to make a move back to the UK last year, it was a perfect opportunity to take on a new challenge to turn my hobby into a degree, learn lots of new techniques and who knows where that will lead me!
Why Happily Sew? It’s all about enjoying the process as well as the excitement of creating something original. Designing and sewing is extremely rewarding but it can also be hugely frustrating – anyone who sews knows how much time we spend unpicking as well! I’m my own greatest critic, I struggle to reach the standard I have set myself but I get huge satisfaction when something works well. This is about enjoyment as well as challenge and I hope you enjoy reading about and checking out the photo galleries of my creations.
